Fleetwood is renowned worldwide for its tram system. In 1885 it was the first tramway to be electrified in Great Britain, and until recently, Fleetwood was the only UK town where trams ran along the main street. Fleetwood hosts and annual event, Tram Sunday It features trams, classic cars and motorcycles, traction engines, coaches and buses, and military vehicles. It also features children's rides and slides, bands, and a host of other entertainments.

The Freeport Shopping Centre was established in 1994 on the site of the old docks, with a Marina alongside. It enjoys a multi-million pound turnover, attracting shoppers from all over the North-West.

Many people choose to visit the Marine Gardens to play Crown Green Bowls, Crazy Golf, or just sit in a deck chair enjoying an ice-cream. Others play 9 or 18 hole pitch and Putt, or visit the Boating Lake.

Fleetwood port is unique because it is the only town in the United Kingdom to possess three lighthouses. Two are actually located within the town itself, and are still fully operational. The Lower Lighthouse was designed in 1840 by Sir Decimus Burton, the architect responsible for much of early Fleetwood. The light from the Lower Lighthouse is 30 feet above the watermark and can be seen for 9 miles

The Upper Lighthouse, usually referred to as the Pharos Lighthouse (after the wonder of the Ancient World), was also built in 1840. There are107 steps and a 10 foot ladder to the top. The Upper Lighthouse is 90 feet above the high water mark and visible for 13 miles. It is still in operation today.
